Differentiating between Carpet Stains and their Cleaning Methods
08/30/2013 Back To BlogCarpet cleaning methods in San Rafael are not too different from the way things are done elsewhere. In this article we concentrate on the management of different types of stains bearing in mind the fact that they respond differently depending on the approach that has been selected. California is lucky enough to have companies that can do this type of work professionally. Nevertheless many local people also do a bit of DIY in this respect. ‘
Water soluble carpet stains
Use white towels in order to absorb a significant proportion of the stains. The area that has been affected needs to be cleaned up using the blotting method. A cloth that has been dampened with water will do the trick. You can repeat the blotting motion until there is no more color transferring onto the white surface. At some point you may decide to use a liquid detergent without a bleaching agent. This would happen if the stain does not go away despite the initial efforts that have been undertaken. Alternatively you may use a spotter that has been specifically manufactured for this type of work. Watch the PH levels to ensure that they do not go beyond 8 when dealing with a printed style. Clean water should be used to rinse the area afterwards.
Do not use excessive amounts of carpet detergent
If you wish to reduce the risk of re-soiling then you should be in absolute control of the amounts of detergent that you use. Some people have found that applying a solution of vinegar and water prior to the blotting process actually works well. Others have opted to use a spotter that has some acidic elements. This would work well for tea, coffee and stains that are based on tannin. However it is not a good idea for printed styles. Another solution that has worked includes ammonia as long as you can stand the smell.
Melting and clearing grease spots
Blotting works for these as well. In addition you can a trichloroethane to the cloth that you are using to blot the area. It is of the utmost importance that you use these materials sparingly and do not pour them onto the fabric. They tend to damage the adhesive side of the pile and that can cause other structural problems that will cost a lot of money to resolve. You are advised to wear protective gloves because the materials that you are cleaning the carpet with may be volatile and not suitable for naked skin. As an extra form of protection you can use ventilation.
Chewing gum and waxy stains
First of all you could freeze the gum so that it rises to the top so that you can scoop it off. In the case of candle wax it is the heat that will melt so that you can get it out of the carpet fiber. Some of the stains like gum react badly to heat because they become even stronger. Therefore you have to choose carefully amongst the options that are offered. You should clean staircase carpets as well so as to reduce the transfer of debris.
